How do I use a smiley?

It's easy to add a smiley to your outgoing HTML webmail message. Just open a Compose Message screen in your HTML web email account. Click the Smileytown icon on your Starware toolbar. When Smileytown appears on your desktop, choose a category, and then click on your selected smiley icon. The smiley icon will appear in your email.

I can't see the smiley icon.

Make sure you are using the rich-media version of your email account.

(Web-based email interfaces block graphics in their plain version.) You can easily customize your web-based email platform for the plain or rich-media versions. For information on how to set your email account to accept graphics, you can always look up the help section of your email platform or read below for examples:

1. Hotmail users
   Select "Rich-Text Editor ON" from the Tools pull-down menu on your Compose screen. It may be hard to tell whether Rich-Text Editor is ON or OFF. It is ON when the last item in the pull-down menu is "Rich-Text Editor OFF", and when there is an edit bar on the top of your email compose screen that includes icons for cut, paste, copy, bold, italicize and more.
2. Yahoo! Mail users
   Click the "Color and Graphics" link at the top of your Compose screen.

If you still can't see the smiley icon, make sure the cursor is in the message area and not in the TO, CC, or any other fields.

Why is my smiley icon not a graphic, but a text equivalent?

If you do not enable the rich-media version of your email account, you will get the text equivalent if available.

Is Smileytown free?

This product is free but that doesn't mean you'll have to endure lots of ads.

What are the system requirements for Smileytown?

1. Operating System Requirements
   (for Starware Toolbar versions 4 and higher):
   Windows Versions (Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP)
2. Browser Requirements:
   Minimum of Internet Explorer version 5.5. We no longer support the Netscape browser.
3. Hardware Requirements:
   Any Windows-compatible computer. We don't support Mac and Linux systems (sorry Mac and Linux friends!).

Can I add a smiley in my instant messenger or in a message board post?

No, Smileytown is an email-only feature that is not compatible with instant messenger platforms or Internet message boards.

I use Norton Internet Security, Zone Alarm, or similar firewall/proxy software and am having trouble downloading Smileytown. What should I do?

Temporarily disable your firewall/proxy software. Go to www.smileytown.com, and try the download again. You can reactivate your firewall/proxy software once you have downloaded Smileytown bundle.

How do you uninstall Smileytown?

Uninstall the Starware Toolbar by going to CONTROL PANEL -> ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Look for an entry called Starware Toolbar and remove it.
